Well, thought I would update you with what has been happening recently. I have been busy this year with setting up Bournemouth Detecting Club, after being very surprised that there was nothing in the area already.
This was set up in February this year and after advertising the Club in the metal detecting magazines, The Searcher and Treasure Hunting, we have amassed almost 80 members which is fantastic. We meet once a month where people bring along their finds and generally talk about all things to do with metal detecting, and other stuff too! Its great to meet so many like minded people and has proved their was an appetite for a Club in Bournemouth. We held our 1st Club dig on 25th September 2011 and raised £400 for the Lymington and District Multiple Sclerosis Society; an article from the Echo can be seen on the Bournemouth Detecting Club website - see one of the tabs at the top of this page. We have another dig coming up soon on the 30th October 2011 and hopefully this time we will raise £400 for the Stable Family Home Trust in Ringwood; I will update with any finds from this. On a more personal note, I found my 1st Roman Coin in March this year, a few musket balls and some old pennies; and to say I am happy with the Roman is an understatement!!! The coin, although not in great condition, was identified as the Emporer Commodus 180-192AD - now that's old! Will update again soon!

Been a fairly quiet last few months with work and a very dry summer, making the ground pretty hard to dig, awaiting confirmation about being able to use land in Shaftsbury and will update if I get this with photos of any finds; check out the gallery for updates!!
Septemeber 11th off to the Weekend Wanderers Summer Rally in Oxfordshire with permission to detect on 1200 acres of Roman land! There should hopefully be some good finds. I will add photos of the day to my gallery afterwards and again hopefully will have some great finds; looking for my 1st Hammered coin!! Will keep you posted. Hi, welcome to my new site.
I have recently taken up the hobby of metal detecting and have already 'got the bug' after some successful finds in friends gardens. Although new to the hobby I am keen to gain as much experience as possible so please do not hesitate to contact me if you need my services. Or, if you own any land you would be willing for me to detect on please let me now; all the finds will be shown to you and you never know, we could even split the Treasure 50/50! It is easy to see why so many people become addicted to the hobby as when you have a signal, it's the excitement of what you might find that gives you a thrill; even though much of it is and always will be ring pulls, rusty nails etc. Any comments about my site would be appreciated and if you would like to see something added please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Darren |
